Services and restarts
The node and the ethoscopes run their software as systemd services, listed on The platform. The node’s Admin tab shows whether its services are active.
On the node
Section titled “On the node”Check a service with systemctl status, for example the web interface:
systemctl status ethoscope_node.serviceRestart it with:
sudo systemctl restart ethoscope_node.serviceRead its log with journalctl -u ethoscope_node.service.
On an ethoscope
Section titled “On an ethoscope”To reach an ethoscope, open an SSH connection from the node (or connect a screen and keyboard to the Raspberry Pi). The ethoscope’s address is shown on its page in the node. Then run:
# if name resolution works on your network, the name works toossh ethoscope@ETHOSCOPE151Here XXX is the address the router gave the ethoscope, not its ID number. The image’s default user is ethoscope with password ethoscope; su opens a root shell. Once logged in, manage the ethoscope’s services in the same way, for example:
sudo systemctl restart ethoscope_device.serviceIf the ethoscope is running an experiment, be careful: you could crash it and lose data.
Shutting down
Section titled “Shutting down”Always shut an ethoscope down from the node (Power → Shutdown, available when it is stopped) before removing its power. Never unplug a running ethoscope: it is the most likely way to damage its SD card.
