Updating

The node and the ethoscopes run software kept in the ethoscope repository on GitHub. Instead of writing a new card for every ethoscope, update the node and the ethoscopes from that repository with the node’s update server:

  1. Make sure the node can reach the Internet.
  2. Open the update server, on port 8888 of the node (for example http://localhost:8888 on the node itself).
  3. Check that the latest version has been fetched from GitHub: the date of the last update is shown. You may need to reload the page.
  4. Select the devices to update. Devices that are running an experiment cannot be updated; you will get an error if you try.
  5. Click Update.
  6. Reload the page after a few seconds.

Update the node as soon as it is installed, and update ethoscopes when you start using a new image.

The software is developed in git branches, which lets new features be tried without affecting the stable version: main is the stable branch and dev the development branch. The update server can switch the node or individual ethoscopes to another branch, for example to run an experimental version of the software on a few machines.
